The 2009 4-H Feeder Calf Division judging was held Friday, July 24 at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. Champion Feeder Heifer was awarded to Cortney Cooper, Mondamin. 4-H BEEF SHOW

The 2009 4-H Beef Show was held on Friday, July 24 at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. Holly Brock, Dunlap, had her Champion Steer named Grand Champion Market Beef. Mason Mentink, Woodbine, had his Reserve Champion Steer named Reserve Grand Champion Market Beef as well.

Taking first place honors for “Group of Five Beef” were the Hawkeye Ramblers, with second place recognition awarded to the Dunlap Knight Riders.

The 2009 4-H Cat Show was held on July 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Harrison County Fairgrounds 4-H Exhibit Building. Champion Long Hair Cat was awarded to Nate Thompson, Woodbine. Champion Short Hair Cat was awarded to Danielle Stoddard, Missouri Valley. Wyatt West, Honey Creek, won the Reserve Champion Short Hair Cat award.

Educational Presentation competitors at the 2009 Harrison County Fair included Victoria Thompson, Brittany Magill (alternate), Aimee Burbridge, Jake Carlson, Justin Thomas, Michelle Thomas, Kendra Holcomb, and Jessy Gochenour.

4-H EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING CONTEST

The Extemporaneous Speaking Contest for senior 4-H’ers was held Sunday afternoon, July 26 in the 4-H Building. This contest is designed to encourage the development of the life skill of communicating with others through enhancing the ability to think, to organize, to speak, and to answer questions readily by participating 4-H’ers before an audience.
Two speakers were chosen to advance to the 2009 Iowa State Fair: Michelle Thomas, Logan, and Jessy Gochenour, Missouri Valley.

Chosen as the State Fair Alternate and going in place of Michelle Thomas was E.J. Darnell, Logan.

Also earning blue ribbons were Aimee Burbridge, Missouri Valley; Jeena Gochenour, Missouri Valley; and Emma Allen, Persia.

4-H HORSE SHOW

The 4-H Horse Show kicked off the judging at the 2009 Harrison County Fair. The show was held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 21 in the horse arena on the Harrison County Fairgrounds. Earning top honors this year for Senior High Point was Elizabeth Sidebottom, Persia; for Junior High Point was Caitlin Phillips, Missouri Valley; and for the Sportsman Award was Maggie Thomas, Moorhead. Kealy Knott won First Place in Senior Trail Riding and First Place in Senior Barrel Racing. Elizabeth Sidebottom earned Senior High Points for the fourth year in a row at the 4-H Horse Show Caitlin Phillips earned Junior High Points. Karen Jensen won First Place in
Junior Pole Bending and Junior Reining divisions.

4-H POULTRY SHOW
The 2009 4-H Poultry Show was held Thursday, July 23 at 5 p.m. at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. The Overall Champion ribbon was awarded to Brandon Barnett, Missouri Valley. The Overall Reserve Champion ribbon and “Best Cared for Bird” ribbon went to Ellen Cox, Woodbine. [ click here for more results ]
